The HRT optic nerve scanner has allowed  glaucoma specialists  real time 3 dimensional optic disc analysis.

The  scanned images can be compared to the  normal database to confirm the presence and severity of the disease, and serial scans can be used to confirm stability or highlight progressive disease, even before visual field changes are evident. This allows rapid diagnosis and  intervention to reduce the risk of progressive glaucomatous damage
